Nearly one decade ago, the artist – who’s full name is Marshall Mathers – created a song with lyrics siding with Chris Brown.
‘But, me, long as I re-promise to be honest / And wholeheartedly, apologies, Rihanna,’ he sang. ‘For that song that leaked, I’m sorry, Ri / It wasn’t meant to cause you grief’
Brown infamously assaulted Rihanna after a pre-Grammy’s party in 2009 where he later plead guilty to felony assault charges and formally completed his probation in March of 2015.
Dennis Dennehy, Eminem’s spokesperson, said in response to the leaked lyrics at the time: ‘This is a leak of something that’s over 10 years old. After Eminem recorded it, he scrapped it, and rewrote it. Obviously he and Rihanna have a great relationship.’
Eminem and Rihanna worked together on the massively successful hit Love the Way You Lie from his seventh studio album, Recovery.
