Bronny James, NBA star LeBron James’ son, is 19 years old!

The proud father marked his son’s birthday with a sweet Instagram post on October 6.

“On and off the court, you’re the (GOAT) @bronny!!” he wrote, referring to the “greatest of all time.” “Happy Birth Day, Son!!! I love you, kid. “Keep going up!”

A few days before Bronny’s birthday, the Los Angeles Laker announced at a team media day that his son will play basketball this season at the University of Southern California. Bronny, a freshman guard, went into cardiac arrest during a practice earlier this summer.

After three days in the hospital and a “successful surgery,” he is working to return to the sport, his father said.

Bronny is LeBron and Savannah James’ eldest son; they also have a younger son, Bryce Maximus, and a daughter, Zhuri Nova.

He has followed in his father’s athletic footsteps, gaining widespread recognition for his basketball abilities since a young age. In 2014, just before his tenth birthday, a video went viral of Bronny hitting a one-handed half-court shot while shooting hoops with his father on the Cavaliers’ practice court.

Several recruiters were impressed by his high school basketball career at Sierra Canyon High School in Los Angeles, and in May, he committed to the University of Southern California as a five-star recruit.

While LeBron has always been supportive of Bronny’s basketball career, he has also been protective of his son throughout the years.

In 2015, the Los Angeles Lakers star spoke out against college coaches who were already sending letters and scholarship offers to Bronny, then ten years old.

“It’s really crazy. It should constitute a violation. “You should not be recruiting 10-year-olds,” he told CBS Detroit at the time.

The father of three also discussed not allowing his children to play football growing up.

“It’s a safety thing,” he told ESPN in 2014. “As a parent you protect your kids as much as possible.”
