Aaron Taylor-Johnson says Russell Crowe got their Kraven the Hunter costars amazing wrap gifts, only gave him handshake

When host Jimmy Kimmel offered Taylor-Johnson a candle, the actor jokingly replied, “I’ll take that — it’s more than Russell Crowe gave me!”

Aaron Taylor-Johnson was kraven a much more expensive wrap gift than the one that he received from his Kraven the Hunter costar, Russell Crowe.

While visiting Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday, the actor revealed that he was hopeful that Crowe would gift him a lavish Patek Philippe watch worth half a million dollars at the end of filming, only to receive a simple handshake from the Oscar-winner instead.

“He was cool, though. He was amazing,” Taylor-Johnson maintained. “He gave everybody amazing wrap gifts.”

The 34-year-old explained that he thought the wristwatch might end up in his possession after Crowe — who plays his character Sergei Kravinoff’s father, Nikolai, in the film — made a point of sitting him down and showing it off to him.

“One day, he said, ‘Come to me, son. Come. Sit next to me. Look at this watch,’” Taylor-Johnson said, noting that Crowe was still in character during their conversation and speaking to him in a Russian accent. “I was like, ‘Whoa! That’s an incredible prop.’ He went, ‘No, this not prop. This real thing.’”

When Crowe noted that the watch was worth $500,000, Taylor-Johnson decided drop a not-so-subtle hint that he’d be interested keeping the Kravinoff family heirloom by quoting the Patek Phillipe slogan to his costar. “[I] said, ‘They say, Papa, you never really own a Patek Phillipe, you merely look after it for the next generation,’” he said. “I was pretty quick! And I am the older son, so…”

It’s true — Sergei is the eldest of Nikolai’s two sons, with his younger brother Dimitri played in the R-rated antihero film by Gladiator II star Fred Hechinger. Taylor-Johnson then revealed that Crowe really did end up spoiling the actors who played Sergei and Dimitri — just their younger versions.

“Young Sergei [Levi Miller], he’s given him a wadge of cash, like over a grand’s worth of cash — changed this kid’s life. And the other kid, Dimitri [Billy Barratt], he loves him, he’s clearly got a soft spot for this kid because he’s into music and obviously Russell loves his music, so he gives him an electric guitar, like a Les Paul,” he said. “And so I think, ‘Okay, so the bar’s pretty high at this point.’”

Then, it was finally time for him to receive his gift. “He comes over to me and he puts out his hand and I instantly notice there’s no watch. I’m like, ‘Okay, here we go,’” he said. “And he goes, ‘It was really great working with you, mate.’”

When Taylor-Johnson casually asked about the missing watch, Crowe reportedly answered, “It’s on loan. I have to send it back — it’s half a million dollars!”

Host Jimmy Kimmel then confirmed that the actor didn’t receive any other gifts. “Nothing! Just a handshake!” Taylor-Johnson exclaimed. “But no, he’s a really good dude and he’s fantastic in the movie.”

Kimmel then began scanning his desk for any potential souvenirs he could give Taylor-Johnson to remedy the issue. “I wish I had some stuff for you,” he said. “I can get you a Smartless dash candle.”

To which Taylor-Johnson quipped, “I’ll take that — it’s more than Russell Crowe gave me!”
