Nicki Minaj slams her hit ‘Starships’ and refuses to perform it when fans beg her: Rapper says it’s a ‘Stupid Song’ because-be

“I don’t like it, what y’all want me to do?” the rapper told the audience during a performance in Miami.

Going to the beach and catching a wave isn’t in Nicki Minaj’s itinerary for the foreseeable future.

The “Super Freaky Girl” rapper, 41, toyed with the crowd during her New Year’s Eve performance at the nightclub E11EVEN in Miami.

In a fan-posted TikTok video, Minaj — dressed in a black, hollow out bodysuit — began performing the first few lines in the opening verse of her 2012 hit “Starships” before abruptly stopping the song.

After singing a few seconds of lyrics, the hip-hop artist signaled for the backing track to stop.

“Hold on. Psych, psych, psych, psych,” Minaj told the audience. “I don’t perform that song no more, y’all. I don’t like it, what y’all want me to do? Stupid song.”

Minaj then appeared to hype up the crowd with a pivot to “Super Bass” instead.

The “Moment 4 Life” musician previously revealed how much she dislikes “Starships.”

“I hate ‘Starships,’ I mean ew, ‘Starships?’” Minaj told Pollstar Live in a 2020 interview. I’m like, ‘Why did I do that?’ I really think that every time I hear it.”

She also expressed her disdain for some of her other tracks during the conversation.

“I wish I never recorded ‘Anaconda.’ I like the video but ugh,” Minaj said. “My first ever solo song on Billboard was ‘Your Love.’ To this day I like the video but I hate the song. I could go on and on.”

Minaj dropped her highly anticipated album Pink Friday 2 — a sequel to her platinum certified debut album Pink Friday — on her 41st birthday in early December, after several delays.

She posted a video to her Instagram sharing the 22-song tracklist, which includes collaborations with Drake, Lil Uzi Vert, Future, Lil Wayne, J. Cole and many more.

Back in 2020, Minaj initially hinted at the album, after posting on X (formerly known as Twitter) a message that read, “PF2.” In June 2023, the Barbz were abuzz when she announced her upcoming album would be a sequel to her seminal 2010 record Pink Friday. However, she also told fans that the record, originally slated for Oct. 20, would be pushed to Nov. 17.
