Will injuries ever leave the Bronx alone? After last year’s unfortunate list of injuries leading to the absence of player after player, the New York Yankees suffered a great deal. Just when one hoped that 2024 would be different, the club was flooded with more. Is it an injury curse that’s lingering on? Seems like it considering the news of their latest injury.
The latest update as announced by the team and reported by ESPN is that “outfielder Oscar Gonzalez suffered a right orbital fracture on Monday night”. Note that this comes after a series of pre-season injuries of Dj JeMahieu, Aaron Judge, Jasson Dominguez, and Gerrit Cole as the latest one. Fans don’t seem happy about how “You guys dropping like flys”.
Another Yankee Declared Injured – What’s Next for the New York Yankees?
Here’s how it started: Gonzalez went to the hospital after fouling a ball off his face during an exhibition game in Mexico. This game was being played against the Diablos Rojos. In the midst of the game, the team physician treated the Yankee at the ballpark for a right eye contusion.
The team later confirmed the diagnosis after the game, and it was reported that the veteran would stay overnight in the hospital. He’d remain there until he undergoes tests on Tuesday. Per the team, Gonzalez is lodging at Centro Medico ABC in Mexico City with Brandon Rodriguez, a double-A trainer.
Further details about the injury as reported are that Gonzalez was jammed on an inside pitch. The ball bouncehd off his bat and hit his face directly as his helmet got knocked off. While being driven off the field in his cart he sat upright before the diagnosis. What looked like a small accident, turned out to be a massive price the Yankees have to pay.
The Yankees Faithful Worry for the Bronx Bombers Who Are Unable to Stay Healthy – Is This a Curse?
Considering how important staying healthy is this season for the Yankees, fans went bonkers. They couldn’t help but comment on the so-called curse that looms over the Bronx.
One fan did not mince words when they declared the team “CURSED”.
Another fan compared the Bronx Bombers to flies.
Joining the bandwagon another fan said, “Wheels were already off”.
More Yankees faithful joined in expressing their need for Oscar and how the team might suffer in his absence.
Comments about the curse continued.
Is it just a bad phase for the team? Or is there really a curse? While this series of injuries leaves the fans in utter fear for their team, the Yankees are onto looking for the a solution.
One can’t say for sure when this injury woe will end. But one thing is for sure, the team needs to stay healthy. After all, there are high expectations coming in from the fans. Moreover, the pressure of maintaining the dominant nature of the Yankees is peaking, now more than ever.
