There are some guys playing in the NHL this season who will still be eligible for the rookie-of-the-year honors next season. The Dallas Stars winger has proved he is the odds-on favorite, says Ken Campbell.

Logan Stankoven of the Dallas Stars is listed at 5-foot-8 and 171 pounds, but that will not stop him from looming large in the NHL’s Calder Trophy race next season.

Stankoven will still be eligible because he will have played only 24 games at most, which puts him under the 25-game threshold to be considered a rookie next season. Shane Wright, who played eight games for the Seattle Kraken last season and scored on Monday, won’t be eligible if he plays two more NHL games between now and the end of the season

A number of other players who have made or will make NHL debuts this season will almost certainly be prominent in the Calder race in 2024-25.
