Thirty-eight-year-old Johnathan Quick, who was very close to hanging up his pads as recently as this past summer before signing a contract in the Big Apple, has become the winningest American-born goaltender as he helped his Rangers teammates beat the Arizona Coyotes 8-5. The previous record for wins was previously held by Ryan Miller (391).
Quick has been afforded the opportunity to play behind some great teams during his career. He won the Conn Smyth Trophy in 2012, helping backstop the Los Angeles Kings to a Stanley Cup championship, which he helped repeat in 2014. He was also awarded the William M. Jennings Trophy twice (2014, 2018) and was awarded an ESPY in 2012.
The old motto that you have to be lucky to be good likely does not apply to Quick, but his longevity is something to marvel at. The move to the Rangers seems to have rejuvenated his career, which may give him an opportunity to win his fourth Stanley Cup as he looks to go out on top in the next couple years.
