ST. PAUL – When Kirill Kaprizov came to the NHL he became an All-Star but it wasn’t until his second season that we could truly identify him as a superstar.

Since then he has been incredible and quite frankly one of the best wingers in the league. He now has scored 40 or more goals and has recorded 75 or more points in three straight seasons.

“He’s always good,” Mats Zuccarello said on Kaprizov. “No surprises there. That’s Kirill.”

Kaprizov, 26, has finished his season with 46 goals and 96 points in 75 games played. He lead the team in goals, assists, points, power play goals, power play points, shots, and game-winning goals.

“He has a passion for the game, passion to compete. He wants to win., wants to score. It’s encouraging to see that cause he’s a top player on the team and a guy that has shown that he has the ability to drive a team,” Wild head coach John Hynes said on Kaprizov. “He plays the game hard and competitive. Practices that way, that’s what you need from a star player.

He also finished the year tied for eighth in the NHL in goals. But since 2021 Kaprizov has scored 133 goals and 50 power-play goals. His 133 goals puts him fifth in the NHL since 2021 and fourth in the NHL in power play goals.

Only Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, David Pastrnak, and Auston Matthews have scored more total goals in that span and only Chris Kreider, Sam Reinhart, and Draisaitl have scored more power-play goals.

“If you’re really going to go places in this league, you need a player of his caliber and what he means to the team in situations he plays in, to be able to have that mindset from himself as a player and that’s great for the organization,” Hynes said. “I really respect his effort.”
