A crazed wrestler who gouged a referee’s head with a spike multiple times after losing a World Pro Class Wrestling match has been banned from ever returning to the mat.

Devon Nicholson, who wrestles under the names Hannibal and Blood Hunter, had lost his match against fellow wrestler Carlito in Irving, Texas, on Saturday night.

Nicholson, 39, then took his anger out on referee Lando Deltoro, grabbing him in a headlock and carving up his skull with the metal spike.

The bloodied referee required seven staples to close the gashes.

The Canadian-born wrestler and YouTube personality claimed the ref was ‘hired to bleed’ during World Class Revolution’s Christmas Star Wars event.

‘This referee was supposed to bleed from razor blade cuts. I assume he actually cut himself with the razor blades, said Nicholson, who’s YouTube channel has over 300,000 subscribers.

Video footage from the incident captured the wild incident as the 280-pound wrestler carved away at Deltoro’s head.

Spectators watched in horror, screaming ‘Get off him!’ as Deltoro remained cradled in Nicholson’s grasp.

Nicholson repeatedly plunged the sharp object into Deltoro as blood oozed down the front of his face.

A female wrestler then climbed onto the mat to pry Nicholson off Deltoro before a male spectator grabbed Deltoro by the legs and pulled him out of the ring.

However, Nicholson’s wrath was not over as he then grabbed a belt hit the spectator helping Deltoro in the head.

The spectator is then heard crying out in pain on the floor as Nicholson picked him up and began punching him.

Before security team members had the chance to pry him off, Nicholson grabbed the spectator and chucked against the metal barrier.

It is currently unclear what condition he is in.

It is not clear if Nicholson will face any charges for attacking Deltoro or the spectator.

Deltoro posted a statement on Twitter to give an update on his recovery progress.

‘Recovering at home, still a big fuzzy and pain, yes lots of pain. But I’ll live. Thanks you all for out pouring of love and support. I am a firm believer that if you put good out into the world, good will return to you #downbutnotout,’ he said.

A GoFundMe page has been organized for Deltoro by his friend Kelsie Gibson to raise funds for his medical expenses with a $10,000 goal.

‘World Class, moving forward, will not be associated with Devon Nicholson… in any way, shape, form or fashion,’ said Jerry Bostic, the CEO of World Class Pro Wrestling on Monday.

‘I cannot, will not, condone what happened last night. I didn’t see the actual incident. I didn’t see anything until I came out and Lando was laying on the ground and it was one of the most horrifying things I’ve ever seen.’

He also added that the ‘stunt’ had been left to Nicholson’s own devices and had not been planned as part of the match.

‘Someone went into business for themselves and took something too far and someone could have lost their life because of it’ he added.

‘I did not know what was going to happen in that match, but I’m not a fan of hardcore wrestling and I trusted that to be taken care of through other channels and that is my fault for trusting, number one. And number two, Devon proved that he could not be trusted in that situation.’

In a YouTube response from Nicholson, he claimed that he had chosen to end the partnership with the wrestling organization.

He further explained that the attack had been a ‘stunt’ and that Deltoro had been ‘hired to bleed.’

‘He gave no indication to me — and you people can watch the footage — zero indication to me in the ring that he wasn’t just selling and was legitimately hurt.’

He also claimed that he did not think he was actually hurting Deltoro during the course of the attack as he thought he covered the tip of the spike with his hand.

‘If he had told me he was getting hurt I would have stopped,’ he added.

Nicholson also said he apologized to Deltoro with the referee allegedly saying that they were ‘cool.’

‘He knows that I didn’t mean to hurt him,’ Nicholson said.

Wrestling fans and social media commenters alike have since been left horrified over Nicholson’s actions.

‘I lost all respect for Hannibal after seeing the video and hearing the first-hand accounts. He can’t be trusted with the lives of other talent,’ Mark Wrenn commented.

‘Wth? Dude almost legit killed someone, and is still trying to wrestle the others around the ring,’ GamesWithTheOne said.

‘Hannibal was never all-there mentally. This does not surprise me,’ Mr. Dunkus added.

Nicholson was a decorated amateur wrestler and an alternate on the Canadian team for the 2012 Olympics in London after winning a silver medal in the Greco-Roman Olympic trials.

In 2014, Nicholson won a $2.3 million lawsuit against Abdullah the Butcher in  Ontario Superior Court of Justice after suing the wrestler for infecting him with Hepatitis C during a match.
