Kyrie Irving treated Victor Wembanyama to a magical ‘welcome to the league’ moment on Wednesday night.

In the third quarter of the Dallas Mavericks’ 116-93 win over the San Antonio Spurs, Irving finished an insane layup over 7ft 5in rookie Wemby.

Kyrie baited Wemby with the hesi before driving to the basket along the baseline and dropping in a sumptuous layup over the towering French phenom.

The incredible finish went viral as fans asked how the 2016 NBA champion managed to pull it off against one of the best rim protectors in the league.

After the game, Irving spoke to reporters and revealed Wemby’s two-word response to the bucket.

“Big fella [Wembanyama] just came over and said that was a ‘lucky shot,'” Irving said.

“So you got to laugh at it. I caught him with the hesi, baseline. He thought I was gonna go reverse and I went middle.

“Something about using that rim as protection as a small guard. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, but that play worked. I’m grateful.”

Wemby had 12 points in the first four minutes of the game and finished with an impressive 26 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three blocks.

However, after a sluggish start, the Mavs found their groove led by the mercurial Irving.

Kyrie finished with 34 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, two steals and one block and was instrumental in the third quarter when Dallas outscored the Spurs by 18 points.

Dallas are currently on a six-game winning streak and find themselves seventh in the Western Conference.

However, they could begin to climb the conference after the All-Star break if Luka and Kyrie continue to play at such a high level.

This season, Irving is averaging 25.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game while shooting 49.1% from the field and 41.4% from three-point range in 33 games.

Doncic is averaging 34.2 points, 8.8 rebounds and 9.5 assists per contest in 47 games.

After All-Star weekend, they face Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns.

The Spurs, meanwhile, slip to 11-44 on the season and are rock bottom of the Western Conference.

Their next game is against the Sacramento Kings.
