Shannon Sharpe has already decided the NBA Rookie of the Year.

The former NFL star and current ESPN host also knows there’s only answer to the best rookie in the league in 2023-24.

While Oklahoma City’s Chet Holmgren has put up impressive numbers and would normally be a clear-cut ROY winner, real history is being made by a 20-year-old from France.

“I said that the Rookie of the Year was over,” Sharpe said on the Nightcap. “People argued with me. I said, ‘Do you see what this kid is doing?’ I mean, seriously.”

The ‘kid,’ of course, is Victor Wembanyama.

Better known as Wemby.

Even better known as the NBA rookie who’s averaging a stunning 20.9 points, 10.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 3.4 blocks and 1.3 steals while shooting 47 percent from the field.

More than 60 games into the season, Wemby keeps improving and making nightly history.

When Sharpe factors in that Holmgren had a full ‘learning’ year last season while recovering from a serious foot injury, the Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee says it’s a no contest for ROY in the NBA.

“Even though Chet didn’t play, him being in the meeting room, him being on the sideline, him understanding what NBA life is about, as opposed to Wemby,” Sharpe said. “It’s different. You can’t tell me that didn’t help him (Holmgren).”

There is one big thing working in Holmgren’s favor.

Winning.

ESPN’s Shannon Sharpe visibly stunned by Johnny Manziel’s four-word secret to losing 40 pounds
Oklahoma City has been the surprise team of the season and the second-year pro out of Gonzaga has been a key reason why.

The Thunder are 42-18 and leading the Western Conference.

Wemby’s Spurs are a horrible 13-48 and last in the West.

Holmgren is averaging 17.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.6 blocks and 0.7 steals while shooting 54.4 percent from the field and 39.7 percent on 3-pointers.

Overall numbers and nightly history favor Wemby.

Shooting efficiency and the won-loss record tilt in Holmgren’s favor.
