Rihanna becomes first female artist to have 10 songs reach one billion streams on Spotify

Rihanna has become the first female artist to have 10 songs reach one billion streams each on Spotify.

The Barbados-born singer has achieved the feat despite releasing little new music since 2016 album ‘ANTI’, and having spent recent years focusing on the clothing and beauty companies that are housed under her Fenty brand.

Letting fans know about the history-making achievement, which was officially achieved on 1st July, Rihanna wrote in an Instagram post: “Bad Gal billi … wit no new album… lemme talk my shit!” Spotify subsequently confirmed that she had indeed achieved the milestone.

The 10 songs from Rihanna’s back catalogue to hit a billion streams are ‘Diamonds’, ‘We Found Love’, ‘Umbrella’, ‘Work’, ‘Love The Way You Lie’, ‘Stay’, ‘Love On The Brain’, ‘This Is What You Came For’. ‘Needed Me’ and ‘Four Five Seconds’.

Rihanna last released new music in October 2022, when she put out the standalone single ‘Lift Me Up’ as part of the soundtrack for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Earlier this year, she performed the track at the Oscars after it was nominated in the Best Original Song category. She also performed at this year’s Super Bowl, marking her first live performance in five years.

It was announced in April that she would star in and make new music for the upcoming Smurfs movie, which is scheduled for a 2025 release.
