We’re in love all over again! Taylor Swift and Shawn Mendes released a remixed version of “Lover,” the title track of the pop star’s latest album, on November 13. Fans were stoked over the collab and it seemed like it was a long time coming.
“Well guys it finally happened: WE DID A COLLABORASHAWN,” the 29-year-old captioned a video of herself on Instagram teasing the drop of her new(ish) song.

“I wanted to tell you about something that I’m really excited about. There is a new version of ‘Lover’ coming,” she explained in the clip on social media. “A remix featuring someone who I’m such a huge fan of — who I’ve known for a really long time — and someone who I’ve always been really dying to collaborate with. Drumroll, please … it is featuring Shawn Mendes.”

The 21-year-old artist also took to Instagram to expand on the exciting news. “Thank you @taylorswift for letting me join you on such a beautiful song,” he captioned a photo of the cover art on the same day. Needless to say, fans have been ready for the two pop stars to join forces.
“This is the best thing I’ve ever heard,” one comment read. Another echoed, “This is actually your heaven on earth, not kidding.” Someone else added, “The collaboration we all have been waiting for!” A separate user gushed, “Best day of my life.”

Not only did Shawn add his vocals to the track, but Taylor dished that he had “rewritten parts of it.” She noted, “Which I think is so important because I love him as a writer, and I also think that everybody would write a different love letter to their lover.” Whether or not Shawn took inspiration from his new relationship with Camila Cabello is unclear, but Taylor raved that his addition is “beautiful.”
It’s no secret that the former Vine star knows a thing or two about romantic lyrics and “Lover” is no different. “We could light a bunch of candles and dance around the kitchen, baby / Pictures of when we were young would hang on the wall,” one of his lines reads. “We would sit on the stoop / I’ll sing love songs to you when we’re 80 / See, I finally got you now, honey / I won’t let you fall.
