While some athletes venture into business and others don their analyst hats after hanging their boots, Stephen Curry is contemplating taking a different route. “Maybe” a political career. While this is old news by now, for those who have been living under a rock, here’s some context. During an appearance on CBS Mornings to promote his second children’s book, ‘I Am Extraordinary,’ Curry said that he’d consider a career in politics, maybe even run for president sometime in the future if it would help him create a “meaningful change.”
But for Shannon Sharpe, he is fine where he is right now. In a recent episode of Club Shay Shay, the NFL legend gave a big fat no to the presidential bid. “See here’s the thing…sports journalists, they trying to find stories for sports, but investigative journalists, they going back and talking to people. They dig. And I ain’t got no skulls in the closet, I got a graveyard. Leave that alone,” said the Shapeshifter.
However, while Sharpe himself has no plans to run for president, he’ll make sure Steph has his vote when the time comes. Not just Sharpe, even Draymond Green gave his nod of approval to Curry’s potential presidential future, even suggesting a possible role for himself as Secretary of Defense in the future. “I actually think Steph Curry would be a great president, and the news that you all did not know you needed was Draymond Green would be in the White House. … I’m telling you. Secretary of Defense, that’ll be a good title for your boy,” said Green. However, while it remains unclear if the Warriors’ duo will transition into politics, one thing is certain: Stephen Curry would make for a great president.
Stephen Curry: A catalyst for change
Moreover, he is also a vocal advocate for social issues that are important to him. In an effort to reduce the racial disparity in the fashion industry, the Warriors guard teamed up with Rakuten and the Black in Fashion Council to amplify up-and-coming black fashion designers through his tunnel looks. The BiFC handpicks designers who deserve to be represented; Curry, for his part, sports their looks to bring attention to them, and once the fans have seen it on him, they can purchase similar articles from Rakuten, a shopping platform. Moreover, during the height of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020, he extended his support by walking in the Oakland and Palo Alto protests.
