With three successful films, “How to Train Your Dragon” is one of the best animated series of all time. The live-action adaptation by Dean DeBlois is now joined by an old franchise acquaintance – Gerard Butler.
In 2010, the first part of the “ How to Train Your Dragon ” series reached the local cinemas and took the hearts of animation fans by storm. Two no less successful sequels followed in the coming years, making the franchise a total of around $1.6 billion at the box office.
Now there will be another reunion with an old acquaintance from the original trilogy in the live-action adaptation of “ How to Train Your Dragon ”. As Deadline reports, action star Gerard Butler is joining the cast of the fantasy film and will also visually embody the role of Viking chief Stoick this time, after he already lent his voice to the character in the animated series in the original English language.

Butler joins the cast of “The Last Of Us” star Nico Parker , who will take on the role of young Astrid, as well as Mason Thames (“The Black Phone”), who takes on the leading role of the teenage dragon rider and chief’s son Hiccup .

While the “How to Train Your Dragon” animated series from DreamWorks in the English original featured a notable voice cast including Jay Baruchel (“FUBAR”), Cate Blanchett (“Tár”) and America Ferrara (“Barbie”), there is still It is not known whether any of the actors will return for the live-action remake in a larger role or cameo.
Originally, the live-action film should have been in cinemas on March 14, 2025. After “How to Train Your Dragon” was also affected by postponements last year due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes in Hollywood, the fantasy film will now start in German cinemas on June 12, 2025.
