Francis Ford Coppola shares some high praise for his nephew Nicolas Cage in the new film Dream Scenario.
This famed director recently praised Nicolas Cage’s latest film performance.
Taking to his Instagram, legendary director Francis Ford Coppola gave a shout-out to his nephew, Nicolas Cage. Posting a photo of Cage in his latest film, Dream Scenario, Coppola beamed: “My nephew Nicolas always pulls a wonderful performance out of his hat, even as a little kid he could imitate a computer.
His work in Michael Sarnoski’s Pig and his most recent performance in Kristoffer Borgli’s Dream Scenario is beyond an old Uncle’s praise.” The heartwarming message found its way on to several social media platforms, with film buffs and fans alike sharing the sweet sentiment.
Cage and Coppola Are Back to Work
The film Coppola praised was Cage’s performance in Kristoffer Borgli’s Dream Scenario, a black comedy fantasy from A24. In Dream Scenario, Cage stars as Paul Matthews, an unassuming academic who realizes that his likeness has been appearing in people’s dreams.
What began as a strange coincidence quickly becomes a terrifying phenomenon of fame, wherein Paul becomes the subject of a media frenzy and people’s individual dream perceptions of him.
The lesser known Cage project that Coppola mentioned was his 2021 role in Michael Sarnoski’s Pig. In Pig, Cage plays Rob Feld, a truffle hunter who is forced to return to his past life in Portland to retrieve his trusty foraging pig after she is kidnapped.
As for the director himself, Coppola’s upcoming sci-fi drama project Megalopolis has been in the works for decades. The plot for Megalopolis follows Julia Cicero (Nathalie Emmanuel), a young woman who is caught between her opposing father (Forest Whitaker) and boyfriend (Adam Driver).
Her father is a staunch traditionalist, whereas her boyfriend is a progressive architect who seeks to build a utopia after his city falls from a massive disaster. Megalopolis is Coppola’s passion project, having gone through slews of table reads trying to cast the film; in 2007 the director claimed to have given up on it.
But in 2019, he rescinded his statement, telling audiences that he would continue development. Filming began in 2023, and Coppola says they are aiming for a 2024 release.
