From heartthrob to hair flop! Gerard Butler, 53, sports an unflattering blond hairpiece as he films new crime thriller In The Hand Of Dante in Rome

He’s one of Hollywood’s most swoonworthy leading men.

Yet Gerald Butler was turning heads for the wrong reasons on Monday as he was spotted modelling an unflattering blond hairpiece.

The PS I Love You star, 53, sported the new hair on the set of his new crime thriller In The Hand Of Dante, which he has been filming in Rome.

For the scene, the Scot was spotted looking a little worse for wear as his character sported a cheap hairpiece with inch-long brown roots.

He donned a silver grey suit, an open-collar black T-shirt and a pair of black Chelsea boots.

His quirky look was paired with a white vest, a cross necklace and two pieces of thick silver chained bracelets.

While characters have not been officially confirmed, Gerard, Jason Momoa and Oscar Isaac are set to lead the cast of the upcoming crime thriller.

The news about the performers’ addition to the project was revealed by Deadline on Monday, and it was reported that the movie is directed by Julian Schnabel.

The project, which will also feature the participation of Gal Gadot, also boasts Martin Scorcese as one of its executive producers.

Both Isaac and Schnabel also serve as executive producers for the upcoming movie.

In The Hand Of Dante is based on Nick Tosches’ novel of the same name, which was published in 2002.

The movie alternates between two interconnected stories, with one taking place in the 14th century and the other being set in modern times.

The latter of the two is centered on a fictionalized version of the author, who is ordered by Mafia captains to authenticate an allegedly original manuscript of the Divine Comedy after it falls into the possession of a smuggling operation.

However, Tosches brazenly steals the item, which was said to have been written by Dante Aligheri himself, and escapes from the mob alongside his romantic partner, Giulietta.

The 14th-century narrative revolves around the Divine Comedy’s author, who attempts to finish his story after traveling to Sicily.

Schnabel, 71, first mentioned that he was working on the project during an interview with Vanity Fair Spain that was published last September.

Johnny Depp was previously connected to the project, and his production company, Infinitum Nihil, purchased the rights to the book in 2008.

The performer was attached to play one of the lead roles at one point, although he eventually stepped away from the film for unknown reasons.

Schnabel spoke to The Guardian last month and stated: ‘I don’t know what happened, but we haven’t talked for years.’

Isaac, Butler and Momoa later signed on to appear in the feature, which is currently filming in Italy.

The project’s crew also obtained an interim agreement from SAG-AFTRA, which allows the film to be shot during the union’s ongoing strike.

In The Hand Of Dante’s release date has not been revealed as of yet.
