Gerard Butler is a Hollywood heavyweight but the Scot has said he won’t be stepping up to play 007 any time soon
Gerard Butler has long been linked to the role of James Bond as one of a few Brit actors in Hollywood – but don’t expect him to sign up to play the spy any time soon.
The 49-year-old Scot, who has scored tons of roles in action movies and rom coms in Hollywood, said he thinks he’s “too old” to play 007 now.
Talking on Capital FM Breakfast show, Gerard told presenter Roman Kemp that he had a meeting with Bond bosses 20 years ago but wouldn’t want to step up to join the franchise now if he was offered the chance.
He responded when asked by Roman: “No, I had a meeting for it like 20 years ago. Now, I think I’m at a nice ripe old age where they won’t be coming back my way which is fine.”

Gerard said he didn’t think he’d be suitable to replace Daniel Craig when he leaves his role despite making his name as an action star.
Speaking of his upcoming movie Angel Has Fallen: “Listen, here’s the thing, you know what I love? I love Bond, I grew up on Bond but the cool thing with this is we created our own franchise.
“We created our own Bond, and that’s more fun than to have to play Bond and be compared to the others like ‘he’s not as good as him’, ‘better than him’, ‘no, nobody ever beats Roger Moore’, ‘oh Sean Connery…’, I wont ever have to go through that.”

Gerard’s latest flick Angel Has Fallen is the third in the trilogy following 2013’s Olympus Has Fallen and London Has Fallen in 2016.
While filming the action thriller alongside Morgan Freeman, Gerard, who plays United States Secret Service agent Mike Banning, revealed that he injured himself on set.
He added that working in action movies means that’s the drawback of the job: “I’ve torn knees, ankles, lower backs, ribs and I almost drowned on a movie.
“In ‘Chasing Mavericks’ I ended up in hospital. I’ve been in car crashes, in fact, Pierce Brosnan – James Bond himself – drove me right into a wall. That was ten years ago.”
