Gerard Butler claimed he’s too old to take on the role of James Bond, but admitted he had talks about playing the iconic character 20 years ago.
Making an appearance on Wednesday’s edition of Capital Breakfast, the 49-year-old actor was quick to say he wouldn’t be a suitable choice to replace Daniel Craig when he departs the role.
When asked by Roman Kemp if he’d join the franchise, the 300 star said: ‘No, I had a meeting for it like 20 years ago. Now, I think I’m at a nice ripe old age where they won’t be coming back my way which is fine.’
Not in consideration: Gerard Butler said on Wednesday that he was too old to take on the role of James Bond when Daniel Craig leaves the franchise
Going on to talk about his new film Angel Has Fallen, Gerard said: ‘Listen, here’s the thing, you know what I love? I love Bond, I grew up on Bond but the cool thing with this is we created our own franchise.
‘We created our own Bond, and that’s more fun than to have to play Bond and be compared to the others like “he’s not as good as him”, “better than him”, “no, nobody ever beats Roger Moore”, “oh Sean Connery…”, I wont ever have to go through that.’
Angel Has Fallen is the third part of a trilogy starring Gerard following 2013’s Olympus Has Fallen and London Has Fallen in 2016.

The action thriller sees Gerard play United States Secret Service agent Mike Banning, who is desperately trying to clear his name after an attack on the President.
Meanwhile, Daniel has been busy filming for the hotly-anticipated Bond 25 movie, which will serve as his final stint as the iconic spy.
Filming for the film finally kicked off in April of this year, and had already been delayed by several months following the departure of director Danny Boyle.

Directed by Cary Fukunaga, the movie has been given a script polish by none other than Killing Eve and Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
Rami Malek is set to play the film’s villain, while franchise mainstays Naomie Harris, Ralph Fiennes and Ben Whishaw will also return.
While Captain Marvel actress Lashana Lynch will reportedly be playing an agent who is assigned James Bond’s traditional code-number 007.
