Unfortunate update for Ana de Armas’ Ballerina brings about good news for a potential fifth part for Keanu Reeves’ John Wick films.

“I have notebooks and notebooks of sh*t behind me”: Keanu Reeves Can Return for John Wick 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 While Ana de Armas Ballerina Spinoff Gets Disheartening Update

SUMMARY

There have been multiple spin-offs in the work from the John Wick franchise and Ballerina is just one of them.
With the disappointing news about the release of the Ana de Armas movie, comes positive news for the Keanu Reeves films.

The John Wick franchise has reinvented the action film genre in the most iconic and significant of ways. On top of having some of the most captivating action sequences, it provides well-written stories with complex characters that audiences grow attached to. So much so, that the latest film in this series, John Wick: Chapter 4, broke fans after watching the death of the titular character.

Many would assume that this would be the end of this franchise, however, they are only getting started. There have been multiple spin-offs in the work which are set in the same universe, with the miniseries, The Continental, having already been released and a film following Ruska Roma syndicate called Ballerina having been in production for some time now.

Unfortunately, the Ana de Armas starring film has just received a very disappointing update that will make fans extremely upset. Although bad news isn’t all there is to report as the update comes with chances of a John Wick 5 being eventually made.

Ballerina Is Spinning Off Course

It was recently reported by Deadline that Ana de Armas’ upcoming John Wick spin-off, Ballerina, has been delayed drastically. The film originally had a release date of 7th June 2024, after being announced almost two years ago. Now, the film will be released on the 6th of June, 2025, being delayed for a year.

The reason for this is quite simple. The action sequences did not meet the standards that the Keanu Reeves films had set for the franchise. It is very clear that the studio, Lionsgate, is trying to replicate and encapsulate what worked with Chad Stahelski’s films. It would seem that what footage they have right now does not meet their expectations.

While this is deeply upsetting for John Wick fans who have been looking forward to the release of this film for quite some time, putting some more thought into this puts forth a clear possibility.

John Wick May Still Have Punches To Throw

If Lionsgate is trying to imitate the feelings and the world that the John Wick films created in other projects, it is inevitable that they will eventually want to go back to the original film series.

It is only a matter of time before someone or the other breaks and a fifth film in the series is put into production. Chad Stahelski, the director of the four films, does not seem completely aversive towards this idea, as he told Inverse during an interview.

The filmmaker revealed that he has more than enough ideas for action sequences to last him another four movies and then some. However, the action has never been a problem for him.

“I have notebooks and notebooks of s–t behind me, John Wicks 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. We have ideas for days. We just don’t have the story locked. I have no interest in doing the cash grab of bringing John Wick back for something.”

“Is he a character I like? Of course. And if I did a couple of John Wick movies, great. Keanu would do one again in a second if we had a good story. We leave that open-ended. I know that the studio would love us to say we have another one.

Stahelski mentioned that the only way that he would come back for another film and convince Keanu Reeves to do the same is if they find a good enough story to tell. The moment that they do, everyone involved, Lionsgate included, would jump on the opportunity to see Wick in action again.
