Jennifer Lopez and her co-star laughed so much during a sex scene in “The Boy Next Door” that the director had to intervene.
Lopez is experienced in the acting scene and speaks up for herself, saying no to uncomfortable movie scenes.
Jennifer Lopez is a professional actress, but she could not stop laughing while she was filming a sex scene with one of her attractive co-stars. JLo and her The Boy Next Door co-star laughed so much while shooting their intimate scenes that the film’s director had to step in. Through years of experience in the acting scene since her breakout role in 1991’s Selena, Lopez has learned to speak up for herself in her career and on film sets and says ‘No’ to movie scenes she finds uncomfortable.
This is expected with her history of romantic films alongside some of Hollywood’s heartthrobs, including Kevin Fields, Josh Duhamel, Ralph Fiennes, Ryan Guzman, and her now-husband, Ben Affleck. However, it wasn’t a Jennifer Lopez rom-com that left the actress laughing at her co-star in the middle of shooting one of the most revealing scenes of her career. In the following, we will learn why Jennifer Lopez was laughing during her intimate The Boy Next Door scene and what she thinks of doing such scenes today. We also reveal how having kids has changed Jennifer Lopez’s career.
Jennifer Lopez’s Intimate Scenes In The Boy Next Door Had Her And Her Co-Star Laughing
Via Universal PicturesJennifer Lopez shared the screen with Step Up star Ryan Guzman in 2015 when they appeared together in the thriller The Boy Next Door. In the Jennifer Lopez movie, she plays a high school teacher entangled in a relationship with a younger man, leading to a one-night stand. Guzman plays the young neighbor who ends up obsessed with Lopez’s character. When she returned to acting to do this film, JLo had years of acting experience under her belt, but for Guzman, it was one of his first film roles outside the Step-Up franchise.
While doing press for the film, Ryan Guzman revealed he and Jennifer Lopez spent time together before shooting the scene to get comfortable around each other. In the scene, Jennifer Lopez strips down to her underwear before Guzman grabs her bare breast and moves things forward. Lopez admitted she didn’t want to use body doubles for the intimate scenes in The Boy Next Door because stand-ins wouldn’t work. “It’s all me and all Ryan, by the way.”
Guzman said in an E! News interview that he confided in Lopez about his fears of filming in front of everyone. He told her, “Jen, I’m super nervous. It’s the first time I’ll be naked in front of a bunch of guys around.” And Lopez did her best to make things as comfortable as possible for him. “She was the one who kept me at ease. She talked me down. She said, ‘We’re going to do this [and] we’re going to do that. Everything is going to be fun. You’re going to have fun.’ It was.”
Despite Guzman and Lopez’s preparation before shooting the scene, they ended up laughing when they got to set. “I looked at her, and I think she started busting up laughing, and then I started busting up laughing because she was laughing.” Five minutes later, the film’s director, Rob Cohen, said, “Alright, guys, let’s get back to work.”
Jennifer Lopez’s Kids Have Changed Her Career Choices
Via InstarWhile speaking about the intimate scenes in the movie, Jennifer Lopez said that her experience shooting the scene was embarrassing overall.
“They are uncomfortable, but your job as an actress or an actor is to make it believable, and this movie in particular…hinges on if that was believable, that it was enough to make this guy go insane.”
Despite JLo’s willingness to strip for her roles, she is not afraid to say no to projects she feels will cross her limits.
The Marry Me star joked to The Miami Herald, “People want you more when you say ‘No.’ You don’t know you have limits when you’re young. Then you reach the limit, and you go, ‘Oh, I can’t do that. And next time, I won’t.’ Then, when you have kids, it’s another reality check. I have to be the best for them. You go, ‘I can’t do this, I can’t do that. No. The answer is no. That’s too much in one day. Take that out. Move that.’”
Jennifer Lopez’s kids include twins Emme and Max, with singer and ex-husband Marc Antony. She is also stepmother to Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner’s kids, Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel. JLo’s views on intimate scenes have changed because she knows her kids will watch her movies eventually. The actress revealed that her twins have watched Maid In Manhattan and The Wedding Planner, “but they haven’t gotten into things like, Out of Sight. They saw Selena.”
How Jennifer Lopez’s Movies Differ From Those At The Start Of Her Career
Jennifer Lopez admits these days, she only steps out to do roles she can personally understand and relate to in some way. “I really found during this movie I became a better mom because I was thinking about it.” Netflix‘s The Mother is one of the roles Lopez feels she connects to. Plus, her kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves after seeing their mother play the bada** mother who came out of hiding to teach her daughter how to survive.
“They really enjoyed it. I had read some of the scenes with one of my kids at home. So when they saw the scenes in the movie, they were like, ‘Oh my God! Those are the scenes we were reading together.” 2023 was a busy year for Jennifer Lopez since she starred in two Netflix action flicks, including The Mother and Shotgun Wedding, and said she’s finally happy with the kind of roles she is getting.
“I’m getting these opportunities to play these roles that I wasn’t even getting offered in my early twenties and thirties, so it’s actually very empowering.”
The Mother was one of Netflix’s most successful movies that year, with reports revealing it was viewed for 249.9 million hours. Fans can expect Lopez to appear in several upcoming Netflix shows after she signed a deal with the streaming giant to produce several projects, including films, unscripted content, and TV series under her company, Nuyorican Productions.
