A new report confirms how much John Wick franchise lead Keanu Reeves made for each film installment as anticipation for the next sequel builds.
New details emerge regarding how much John Wick franchise star Keanu Reeves received for playing the uncompromising assassin in the first four films in the titular series as fans await further updates on the fifth installment.
According to Just Jared, Reeves scored his biggest payday in the John Wick franchise for the most recent sequel, Chapter 4, earning a base salary of $15 million.
Additionally, Reeves will likely earn a significant bump in his earnings given his ownership stake in the John Wick film series and Chapter 4‘s $440 million return at the global box office, a franchise high.
Reeves’ pay naturally increased as the John Wick franchise evolved, both critically and commercially. The original 2014 movie saw Reeves take home a base salary between $1 million and $2 million, while Chapter 2 earned Reeves up to $2.5 million.
It’s been unconfirmed how much money Reeves made for playing Wick in the threequel, Chapter 3 – Parabellum, though it’s believed he secured a significant pay increase compared to the first two movies.
John Wick 5 Was Announced by Lionsgate
The fifth film won’t be the next movie in the John Wick franchise, however, as the spinoff film, Ballerina, will be released on Jun. 7, with Reeves making an appearance in the Ana de Armas-led movie.
Whether Reeves will appear in John Wick 5 remains shrouded in doubt. While Lionsgate insists they won’t make the future tentpole without Reeves, director Chad Stahelski strongly suggested Chapter 4 was the end of the line for the titular assassin.
However, Stahelski refused to confirm whether Wick died at the end of Chapter 4, leaving open the possibility of Reeves coming back. For Reeves, John Wick has been one of his two most popular action franchises, alongside The Matrix, making the character a household name.
Co-star Ian McShane, who’s played hotelier Winston Scott in every John Wick film, believes Reeves deserves a rest after working hard to portray the lead character for a decade.
Along with John Wick 5, the eponymous franchise is expanding its reach as a recently announced multimedia deal sees Stahelski wield greater creative control over it. Multiple John Wick spinoff shows are being planned, as well as an anime series.
