The conversation led Nicolas Cage to share the benefits of eating insects. The 59-year-old actor stated how insect consumption can help solve the major global crisis of starvation, stating that “they’re just abundant, they’re everywhere.”
Cage told the outlet, “If we could get over our phobia of eating insects, you could solve world starvation,” as he explained that they are “high protein, no fat, extreme nutrients.”
While he emphasized the nutritional value of bugs and their potential to resolve world starvation, Cage refrained from personally partaking in the act, citing his experience in the 1988 film.
Nicolas Cage Has Moved on From Eating Insects
Nicolas Cage took some extreme steps for his 1988 film Vampire’s Kiss. One of the scenes of the movie features him eating a cockroach after he starts believing that he is turning into a vampire.
While the original scene of the film required him to swallow a raw egg, the actor reportedly insisted on eating a cockroach to shock the audience.

“I saw it as a business decision because when people see the cockroach go in my mouth… [they] really react,” he shared in the film’s DVD commentary track.
However, he does not seem interested in following up with the practice anymore, as he shared, “I’ve learned to move on from that.” The actor recalled the experience in another interview, as he called it a traumatizing experience and said that he does not want to do anything like that ever again.
