Releasing Reacher season 3 sooner may help avoid the disappointment experienced with season 2.
Season 2’s pacing and execution led to a less-than-satisfying finale for viewers.
Reacher season 3 will adapt Child’s “Persuader,” isolating Jack for more personal development.
The latest update for Reacher season 3 sets it up to prevent a big season 2 issue. Despite Tom Cruise’s recent take on the character, Amazon Prime Video still moved forward with their adaptation of Lee Child’s famed books with Alan Ritchson as the titular character.
Reacher season 1 was an immediate hit, and unsurprisingly, a follow-up year was ordered. Unfortunately, despite all the hype for it, Reacher season 2 failed to capture viewers the same way that its predecessor did. Its issues have been repeatedly dissected, with the hopes that Reacher season 3 will learn from it.
Based on Bad Luck and Trouble, Reacher season 2 saw Jack and Neagley teaming up with other members of the 100th Special Investigations Unit, David O’Donnell and Karla Dixon, as well as New York police Guy Russo, to take down Shane Langston and New Age.
Being mostly surrounded by people who previously knew Jack altered the character’s usual stand-off demeanor and initially offered a refreshing premise. Unfortunately, the story’s execution and pacing set up a less-than-satisfying Reacher season 2 finale. Aside from that, however, Amazon Prime Video may have already set it up for failure long before it premiered.
Reacher Season 3 Releasing Sooner Would Fix A Season 2 Problem
Reacher‘s broadcast may have likely contributed to season 2’s disappointment. When it started in February 2022, it quickly became a hit. While it was always meant to continue beyond its freshman year, it took almost two years before Reacher season 2 premiered.
The big gap between seasons 1 and 2 helped build the hype for the latter, which is typically a great thing. It allowed for more people to catch up to it after the initial good word-of-mouth spread. However, building up the hype also set up high expectations for Reacher season 2 since it was taking extra long.
Now, with Reacher season 3’s production already finished, Amazon Prime Video can release it in the next couple of months. Aside from significantly cutting down the wait time in between seasons, it also allows for stronger continuity, since the events of Jack’s adventures with the 110th Special Investigations Unit are still fresh in viewers’ minds. Also, releasing Reacher season 3 sooner rather than later allows the series to make up for season 2’s disappointments quickly.
Reacher Season 3 Must Do More To Improve Upon Season 2
Child’s Persuader from 2003 is confirmed to be the book that Reacher season 3 will be based on. This sets up the upcoming year to address some of the biggest issues from season 2. Per the novel, Jack’s next mission will drop him in a foreign environment, with fewer allies to back him up. He supposedly goes undercover to wrap up an unfinished business from his past.
While it’s great to see Jack operate within a well-oiled unit in Reacher season 2, his dynamic with them wasn’t as fun to watch compared to Jack’s time with Roscoe and Finlay in season 1. Isolating him again means that he will have to rely heavily on himself before he inevitably establishes a rapport with his next allies. It also allows for a more satisfying intrapersonal development for him.
