Reacher star Alan Ritchson opened up about he and his wife living like nomads with their three kids.
The actor, 41, opened up about selling his Florida home and staying in Airbnbs or hotels so he doesn’t have to be apart from his family for long periods of time.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal published on Tuesday, he explained that he has to be away from his family to film, which was ‘hard’ for all of them.
While on the road, the Fast X star — who opened up about his diet and says he often has cheat days — said that his wife, Catherine Ritchson, 39, home-schools their sons, who are 11, nine and seven.
‘Today, my wife, Cat, and I live with our three boys on the road,’ he told the outlet, adding that he and the financial analyst have been longtime partners; they met in high school and tied the knot in 2006.

The 41-year-old actor opened up about selling his Florida home and staying in Airbnbs or hotels so he doesn’t have to be apart from his wife and kids for long periods of time
To keep their family unit together all the time even while he is working on set, he said they decided to live on the road.
‘Being away from my family for long stretches on location was hard on them and me,’ he explained. ‘So Cat and I recently sold our Florida house and we now live in Airbnbs and hotels while I’m set.’
In the same interview, he opened up about being cut from American Idol in the second round, which he said led to his ‘first break’ in 2005.
That year, he was cast in The Butcher, which he described as ‘a cheap horror film’, and then Smallville, which ran until 2011.
In 2022, he landed the leading role in the show adaptation of the 2012 Tom Cruise-led Jack Reacher film, based on Lee Child’s books.
He explained that when he auditioned, he was ‘passed’ for the role because he did not meet the desired height and weight requirements for the part.
‘My audition wasn’t a breeze,’ he admitted. ‘At first they passed [because] they wanted someone who was 6-foot-5. I’m 6-foot-3 and at the time weighed 205 pounds.
Despite the initial rejection, he started reading the books to get a handle of the character’s ‘bone-dry humor’ and started ‘bulking up’.

He explained that they travel with him to any location he has to stay at and film
He also recalled being initially rejected for Reacher before he started ‘bulking up’ and transformed his body
Six months later, he recalled being asked to come back and then eventually landing the part due to his hard work.
He also opened up about how the Amazon Prime Video action series lent to his success and also led to his high school bully-turned-fan asking him for a selfie when they ran into each other years later.
He recalled how he was teased in school by some of his peers for not having body hair and being ‘a very late bloomer’.
After making it in Hollywood and finding fame, he said he ‘ran into one of the guys who teased me in high school’ before he and his wife sold their home and left Florida.
‘He wanted a selfie,’ the Titans alum recalled. ‘I was happy to oblige, but it felt strange.
‘He forgot what he did, but I didn’t,’ he said, adding that the bullying affects him to this day. ‘I still don’t like wearing shorts.’
Season two of Reacher premiered on December 15 on Amazon Prime Video and is now available to watch on the streaming service.
