The development of a new spin-off for John Wick, while Lionsgate continues to insist on Keanu Reeves for the fifth installment, has caused further dissatisfaction among fans.

“The mystery was the appeal”: Another John Wick Spin-Off Upsets Fans as Lionsgate Forces Keanu Reeves to Return for 5th Movie

SUMMARY

When The Continental, a spin-off series for Keanu Reeves’ action-hero film series, was released, it wasn’t welcomed very nicely by fans.
The filmmaker recently teased about another spin-off series and an anime project, while the fifth film installment is on hold until they can find a new story.
Fans aren’t happy and are literally pleading with the higher-ups behind the franchise to stop trying to ruin the action hero’s legacy.

John Wick has undoubtedly been one of the greatest and most widely acclaimed milestones of Keanu Reeves’ entertainment career.

But as critically acclaimed as the movies from the film series are, there’s only so much that can be squeezed out of action-mystery plotlines like John Wick‘s. However, the masterminds behind the film series seem to be failing to understand this point.

Instead, the filmmakers and production studio Lionsgate are only trying to further expand the franchise with a new spin-off series and another installment of the film series, even after the not-so-greatly-acclaimed spin-off series, The Continental. As expected, this news is anything but sitting well with fans.

When The Continental, a spin-off series for Keanu Reeves‘ action-hero film series, was released, it wasn’t welcomed very nicely by fans.

That should have been a lesson for director Chad Stahelski and production studio Lionsgate to stop further experimenting with the franchise.

However, little did they learn the lesson, considering how the filmmaker has recently teased having not only another spin-off series in development but also an anime project for the same in the works while the fifth installment from the film series is on hold until they can crack a new story (which is opposed by Reeves as well, by the way).

As shared by @DiscussingFilm on X, this new spin-off live-action series will basically be about ‘The High Table’.

While that has most certainly been a matter of interest among fans, it seems unlikely that there will be enough content on that, considering Stahelski’s comment on the same during an episode of The Discourse podcast (via The Playlist):

“We’re never going to show the whole High Table; we’ll show the representatives, but we’ll always keep some of that [mystery]. And now that we’ve got… Lionsgate is having us develop the ‘John Wick’ TV show, so we thought we could explore The High Table in that a little bit.”

Furthermore, this spin-off will be a completely separate thing from The Continental and might explore newer characters from John Wick: Chapter 4. However, even this isn’t enough to please the fans, who are literally pleading with the higher-ups behind the franchise to stop trying to ruin the action hero’s legacy.

Fans aren’t happy with the John Wick franchise’s expansion
Following this revelation brought to them by @DiscussingFilm on X, fans have been piling up to show how displeased and uninterested they are in the further projects in development for their favorite action hero.

Not only do they believe that all this expansion to make the John Wick franchise into a universe could potentially ruin the ex-hitman’s legacy, but they also fear that this will lead to the franchise losing the mystery appeal of the criminal underworld.

Here’s what fans have to say on this John Wick update:

Considering the displeased reaction of fans over this new update, it won’t really be a surprise if the upcoming John Wick projects end up taking the franchise down the drain. To sum it up, the higher-ups of this really need to stop with the ‘milking to the last bit’ out of this franchise.
