Titans star Alan Ritchson recently revealed that he originally auditioned to play Nightwing in the DC superhero series before landing the role of Hawk.

In an interview with Men’s Health, the actor opened up about his Titans audition, recalling that he “was so confident” he had snagged the lead role that he bought himself a Tesla. “I was like, ‘This is the best damn audition I’ve ever had in my life.

There’s no way they can do this show without me,'” he explained. The role of Dick Grayson/Robin/Nightwing ultimately went to Brenton Thwaites, with Ritchson being told he was too old to play Batman’s former protégé.

Although Ritchson missed out on playing Nightwing, there’s a chance he might find himself in the running for the character’s mentor/adoptive father, Bruce Wayne/Batman. DC fans have begun campaigning for Ritchson to play the Dark Knight in James Gunn’s forthcoming DC Universe.

Batman is expected to debut in the movie The Brave and the Bold, which will feature the vigilante’s son, Damian Wayne. With the DCU’s Batman expected to be older, Ritchson, at 41 years old, could be the right age for the role.

“The fact that people are interested in me playing Batman is a real honor and privilege,” Ritchson remarked when asked about the fandom wanting him to play the Caped Crusader.

“It’s one of the first characters I fell in love with as a child: I still remember the big, long pistol coming out of Joker’s pants as he goes to shoot down the Batplane.” He continued, “… I would love to. I would absolutely love to. It’s one of the coolest characters of all time.”

Alan Ritchson Was Almost in the MCU

While Ritchson’s superhero tenure has primarily been under DC, the actor shared with Men’s Health that he almost joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the role of Thor Odinson, the God of Thunder. “I didn’t take it seriously,” recalled Ritchson.

“I was like, ‘They’ll throw me the part if I look like the guy; nobody really cares about acting.'” Unfortunately, despite being told that the role was his to lose, Marvel cast Chris Hemsworth as the MCU superhero, with Ritchson being told that he hadn’t shown the studio that he had “the craft.”

What’s Next for Alan Ritchson?

After breaking out as the title character in Prime Video’s Reacher, Ritchson is busier than he has ever been. In addition to a third season of Reacher, the actor is developing a sequel series to his popular comedy series, Blue Mountain State (2010–11), and has a multiyear first-look movie deal with Amazon MGM Studios.

He can currently be seen in theaters starring in the drama film, Ordinary Angels, and has a supporting role in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming action spy comedy film, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which hits theaters in April.
