Based on Lee Child’s “Jack Reacher” books, Prime Video’s “Reacher” series shows no signs of slowing down. Season two wrapped up on January 19 with an action-packed finale, but season three is already in the works.
The show follows Alan Ritchson as Jack Reacher, a former military investigator who has become a nomad since leaving the armed forces and frequently gets caught up in conspiracies, assassination attempts, and underworld shenanigans.
While the first season introduces Reacher in a mystery involving corruption in a small town, season two focuses more on his past, as he works with his old team of investigators to figure out who is picking them off one by one.
But now that the second batch of episodes has come to a close, it’s time to look ahead to “Reacher” season three.
‘Reacher’ season 3 might be a new adventure that doesn’t tie into his past

By the end of “Reacher” season two, the hulking mass-of-muscle and his surviving teammates put a stop to a nefarious company’s plans to sell a smart missile to the highest bidder, while also getting revenge on Shane Langston (Robert Patrick) for killing members of their squad.
And in true Jack Reacher fashion, instead of settling down and sticking with his friends, the hero decides to leave them behind and continue wandering across America. After he gets on a bus, one of the other passengers asks him where he’s headed. Reacher’s answer? “No idea.”
Season two is a self-contained story that doesn’t leave audiences on a cliffhanger, and it seems like fans can expect a brand new mystery whenever season three arrives on Prime Video.
The plot is being kept under wraps for the moment, but when speaking to ComicBook.com in December, Ritchson teased that Reacher will be up against something new.
“I can’t say too much about season three, but I will say there’s a lot of classic Reacher stories which are just adventures that he gets sucked into in a big way,” he explained.
Ritchson added: “And we get to enjoy Reacher in a new world. It may not have anything to do with family, with his past — he’s just living that adventure out and that’s kind of the direction that we’ve gone, and it seems to really be working.”
The season two ending on the bus could be a nod to Child’s book “61 Hours,” which starts with Reacher on board a bus that crashes during a snowstorm.
From there, Reacher grapples with a gang of drug dealers who are operating out of an abandoned military base nearby.
But considering the open ending of season two, it would be easy for the writers to send Reacher in just about any direction.
‘Reacher’ season 3 has already started filming, so a release date might not be too far off

Although there isn’t a confirmed release date for “Reacher” season three yet, fans will be pleased to know that Ritchson is already back to work, as filming has already started on the next batch of episodes.
Ritchson and Amazon confirmed that the show had been renewed for a third season back in December with a behind-the-scenes video. In the short clip, Ritchson says: “You’re on the set of season three of ‘Reacher’ right now. We’re officially underway.”
Considering season two has only just finished, it seems likely that “Reacher” won’t return to our screens until the end of 2024 at the earliest, although the start of 2025 could be a safer guess.
Alan Ritchson will again lead the ‘Reacher’ season 3 cast

Yes, this is an obvious one, because you can’t have “Reacher” without Alan Ritchson playing the titular character. Sure, they could try to get Tom Cruise back to reprise his role from the two movies, but it just wouldn’t be the same.
For now, Ritchson is the only confirmed cast member for “Reacher” season three. Judging by his recent comments that suggest the plot will take the character to a new setting, it seems likely that none of the actors from previous seasons will return to lend him a hand.
But that’s a good thing! One of the best things about the show is the interesting characters that Reacher meets on both sides of the law, so this is an opportunity to cast a varied mix of stars to keep Ritchson (and Reacher) on his toes.
