For some reason, people are still debating whether couples should split expenses 50/50. It feels like such a common sense approach to a partnership that it’s shocking people are even arguing about it.

But Cardi B is one famous name who’s on board with a 50/50 dynamic.

The hip-hop star recently broke down the “controversial topic” with Wallo and Gillie Da King on “Million Dollaz Worth of Game.”

“How y’all ever gonna save up to buy a house or buy a business if you make the same money but he pays all the bills?” she said. “‘Cause he’s never gonna be able to afford to. Certain things it’s a joint thing to do.”

She questioned if all these people up in arms over splitting expenses actually remembered how things work in the real world. “The internet really be having people f***ed up,” the “WAP” rapper said.

“Y’all be acting like y’all don’t know what the fuck that is like no more. Come on…y’all don’t be living in the real world.”

Of course, the internet instantly had thoughts on the Grammy winner’s comments. Some users agreed with her, confirming that partners need to split everything, while others stated that Cardi’s complicated relationship with her husband, Offset, means she shouldn’t be giving out advice.

The “Invasion of Privacy” artist took to Instagram to clarify her thoughts, explaining that it’s not about them because they’re blessed to be in the “one percent.”

“The men started praising me and the women started attacking me,” she said. “First things first, I never said women and men have to go 50/50…I want to make this very f***ing clear. Me and Offset, we don’t go 50/50. We bought a house, and we went half and half on our Atlanta home. We got two properties that we bought together, two investment homes. I bought my home in Jersey myself, and he bought a condo in Miami himself.“

She also detailed how when she was young, both her parents had to work to keep the household running smoothly and reminded women to keep something set aside for a rainy day so they don’t end up with nothing. Solid advice that moms, grandmas and aunts have been passing down for generations.

The 50/50 conversation kicked off back in May 2023 when actress Gabrielle Union revealed that she and her husband, Dwyane Wade, “split everything 50/50.” Male egos everywhere were crushed that she expressed such an independent opinion.

During an appearance on “Club Shay Shay,” D-Wade told Shannon Sharpe, “50/50 in our household…let’s say that I have 20 to 50 responsibilities. My wife has 20 to 50 responsibilities…You know what she does? She pays one hundred percent of that. You know what I do? I pay one hundred percent of my life.”

This whole debate is so ridiculous. First of all, why are you so concerned with how someone else is handling their money? Second, these are multi-millionaires who do not need our advice on their finances. Finally, saying both partners should split the household expenses equally is not controversial or new.

How are we still talking about this in 2024? I’m not trying to tell anyone else how to handle their business, but a lot of y’all are making this much more complicated than it is. And if your finances aren’t a conversation you want to have with your partner, you might have bigger things to think about.
